This album is dedicated to Skanda Vale, an amazing spiritual community I used to be involved with down in the wilds of west Wales near Llampumsaint Carmarthen. About a decade ago we were working on a few songs written by their very talented Swami Amba, which unfortunately were never released. To give air to these beautiful bhajans I recorded my version of a couple of them which are included on the album (tracks 1 and 8) to honour the work of the community, temples and sanctuary for all life, which are unsurpassed by anything on planet earth.

RASA is a Sanskrit word meaning the essence of life, existence, the enjoying of the juice, the flavour, and a total relishing of the ‘taste’ of beingness.
RA and SA , the components of this word, are also powerful mantras of the sun and moon energies, the yang and the yin, purusha and prakriti, the unmanifest and manifest…and all the opposites in existence.

Lord Ardhnarishwara depicted on the cover, is a representation of this. 'They' are half Shiva (unmanifest consciousness) and half Parvati (shakti, the material universe). We are all composed of these two things (which are in reality just one) and experience a universe composed of opposites when we perceive these as two. Through spiritual maturity, when the two are in balance, we then come to live in oneness, unity. The world needs everyone to quickly realise this state of spiritual maturity, so the human family can come together as one, and live in peace.

Sacred music reflects the inner experience, and through connection to the world of form it can help the embodiment of all human feelings. The music on this album is an eclectic mix of acoustic and electronica bringing together the physicality of rhythm and the aesthetic sensibilities of eastern and western melodies and harmonies, infused with the intense power of mantra. This ecstatic mash up will hopefully facilitate the enjoyment of pure ‘rasa,’ promoting deeper unification and ultimately the state depicted by Lord Ardhnarishwari !

Recorded at Fachongle Isaf, Pembrokeshire 2022, produced & engineered by Bhaktananda.

Track 5 was written by the Bhakti Retreat Collective in Llandysul 2021, and stars Joanna Ferret (main vocals), with Helen, Julie, Alison, Pam, Michele and Jasmina.Special thanks to Sophie Barrett for vocals on tracks 2, 6, 8, 9 and Felix Padel for violin on tracks 2 and 9.
